Mechanical Engineer

 

 

The selected Candidate will be working as a Nuclear Project Engineer planning construction jobs in the Nuclear Industry. The Candidate must be flexible to work in both mechanical design and in developing plans and controlled procedures to perform work in OPG’s and Bruce Power’s nuclear facilities. Candidate must be a self-starter and capable of independently performing the designated tasks. Depending on demand work will vary between design and project engineering work.

 

Engineering work includes but is not limited to

  • Write operational instructions to be used in nuclear plant operation, tool testing or mock-up validation

  • Interface with the customer,  project manager, Quality Assurance and Design Engineering and gather information about the project to complete it successfully and on time 

  • Investigate and prepare specifications for automated welding equipment and special tooling

  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, code requirements, project schedule

  • Define Mock-up requirements

  • Development and design of nuclear class tooling

  • Prepare tool lists and define requirements for new processes

  • Take corrective actions in case of an emergency during execution

  • Review previous operational experience to gather data that can be used to design preventative measures 

 

Qualification

  • Minimum 3 year mechanical engineering degree from accredited college

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ industrial experience

  • Knowledge in Solidworks and ability to create basic designs

  • Strong Mechanical aptitude

  • Proven problem solving and decision making ability

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Be able to work both independently and take initiative

  • Team player

 

About the Company

Kai Cao Inc. is an engineering company that provides nuclear consulting and engineering services to various vendors in the Canadian nuclear industry. Kai, the general manager, started the company in 2015 after working in the nuclear industry for over 10 years. At Kai Cao Inc. we team up with the major players in Canada’s nuclear industry including BWXT and Aecon to ensure quality and achieve our customer’s needs. Our projects are diverse and dynamic in nature varying from nuclear reactor refurbishment, system piping, steam generators/boilers, automated welding, etc.

 

Work Location

Work will be conducted from Cambridge office. Candidate may be required to attend meetings at customer offices. 

 

Travel

Frequent travel to vendor sites may be required. Selected individual may be deployed to provide engineering oversight during construction at Bruce Power and OPG nuclear facilities.  The candidate will be required to provide construction oversight at Bruce Power and duration will be dependent on project.

 

About the Industry

Work in the nuclear industry is often dynamic and requires custom solutions and specialized processes to solve unique problems. There are plans to refurbish 6 Bruce Power reactors and 4 OPG Darlington reactors in the next 15 to 20 year time frame. The work is highly regulated and strict processes are in place to ensure the safety and quality of work being performed.

Other Requirements

  • Valid G driving license and a vehicle

  • Clean record and be able to pass a criminal background check by CSIS

  • Security clearance in the nuclear industry is an asset  

 

Compensation

Varies depending on experience and education level. Company pays benefits, insurance and travel expenses.
